Mining farm works properly and brings stable income to its owner. However, to get the most of mining equipment users can try to increase the performance and to overclock GPU. Overlocking is the action of increasing a component’s clock rate, running it at a higher speed than it was provided by the manufacturer.

Beginner users are often concerned about the issue that as the result of the overlocking procedure, they might get a burnt graphic card. Actually, there is nothing to worry about. Overclocking a graphics card is generally a safe process and they design today’s cards in the way a user is not able to cause any serious damage. The only must is to follow the necessary steps correctly.

Step #1. Increase frequency. Users should increase frequency slowly. The professionals do not recommend adding more than 40-50Mhz at a time.

Step #2. Stress testing. With the help of stress testing users determine the stability of a given system. In order to make a test, it is necessary to download an application that provides an intensive graphic card stress test. Users are to set the screen resolution and the duration of the scan in the settings.

Then start the program. It is recommended to test new settings for at least 15 minutes. If the system with the raised frequencies is stable, then users add the next 50Mhz and repeat the launch. It is necessary to continue the procedure until the adaptor refuses to work or begins to issue artifacts. Beginner users might worry how to overclock GPU safely, but this is simply the result we are aiming at. If there is a message that a video driver gives no response and stops operating, this is a kind of a point of departure. That is, the equipment can’t cope with the determined load and one needs to lower the frequency.

The next step will be the reduction of the previous point to 50Mhz and then we add 20Mhz. Check with the benchmark once again and add a bit till the testing shows the maximal possible mark for user’s video card.

Step #3. Final testing with the real load. Having found the exact number, the system passes the testing without any difficulties. The next step to overclock GPU is to check it in the real work, for example, using the favorite game. The real load allows evaluating the real state of work while the test simulator is not always accurate. The game should be really heavy so that the chip charges for 90%. A user should proceed gaming for a couple of hours to be sure that everything works properly.

By overclocking the speed, user’s GPU will increase in temperature and it will draw more power. There must be a good balance created between a stable temperature for the graphics card and higher performance.

Advantages of overclocking GPU

The fist advantage is performance increase. Overclocking enables to increase the hashrate for crypto mining. Then it provides the ability to reduce power consumption. What is important, that these days modern software allows users to regulate it. That factor will be more useful for a mining farm with several video cards as Bitcoin mining consumes a large amount of energy.

One more thing to mention is that manufacturers themselves create additional options for installations. Each model is provided with specifications and users are to be very accurate with them. Every GPU is different. Even the same series of GPU by two people can give different numbers at overclocking. In addition, there is a lot of information about the process on the Internet. It might look quite complicated at first sight, but being aware of all the nuances, users are not likely to meet with obstacles and  in most cases, users see the performance will be improved.
